What am I supposed to do?
See the General Tips page for advice on how to advance to the next level in the riddle as well as how to solve the puzzles in general. A quick rundown: advance to the next level by solving the puzzles and either changing the address (something.htm) to reflect the solution or typing in the appropriate solution in a password gate, if applicable. Many levels are more complicated than that, however, so stay on your toes.

What do I do if I'm stuck?
It is suggested that you peruse the Level Guide, and possibly the General Tips page. If you wish to discuss a level or have questions/comments that are not addressed within the level guide you can post them within the discussion for that level, or in the General Riddle Discussion category, in the forum. Also note that the discussion thread for a particular level is linked to from within both the Level Guide and the Level Credits section.

You mention the source code a lot. What is that and how do I get to it?
The source code of a page is the HTML coding that, when seen through your browser, produces the page you're viewing. You can view the source code in Internet Explorer by right-clicking on the page and selecting View Source, or by selecting Source under View in the toolbar. This can be done in Firefox by right-clicking and selecting View Page Source. For other browsers, do the same and look for the word "Source". It's useful to know a bit about the source code and how it works, so here's a quick rundown for those who do not know HTML - the text in between the <title> </title> tags produces the title, the <img src="../images/imagename.gif" /> tag produces the image with imagename being the image name and .gif being the extension, and any text between the <!-- --> tags are typically comments and hints towards solving the puzzle that do not appear on the actual page.

Am I allowed to use the pictures, text or riddles featured here on my own website?
Most of the pictures are licensed under a Creative Commons license, which, depending on the license, will allow some freedoms on what you can do with the pictures. (Check the Level Credits page for the copyright license of the picture featured on a specific level.) You may use riddles for certain fair use purposes, such as to demonstrate the idea of an "online riddle" or to critique the fallibility evident in our riddles, however, we ask you not to steal the fruits of our intellectual labour by copying a riddle of ours and claiming it as your own. The General Tips & Level Guide page may be reproduced under this Creative Commons license if you wish to do so.

What do the versions (ex 17.0.2) in the Level Credits page mean?
The versions are part of TROD's own unique numbering system - for 17.0.2, 17 means the level number, 0 means that the method of solution or other significant part of the riddle has changed 0 times in comparison with the original, and 2 means that 2 minor changes (ex changing the image, rewording the solution) have been made to the original version (17.0.0).

The Creators and the Creation
Who created The Riddle of Doom?
The riddle was first created by Andrew, and had 16 levels at the time. Others were challenged to solve it, and with some advice, Wendy managed to solve it first and offered to extend the riddle. They are now co-administrators of the site.

How did you get the idea to create this?
All the credit for this one goes to David Munnich, who in turn created NotPron because of an inspiration from This Is Not Pron, another riddle website.
How long did it take you to create it?
The riddle began sometime in February or March of 2005, and is continually being worked on, with levels being updated and deleted, and new levels being introduced. The current version of the riddle is 2.0.1.

About the Riddles
How did you get the ideas for the riddles?
While the first few (and a few others after) are inspired by NotPron riddles, most of the riddles are original and are thought of by either administrator of the riddle, or, occassionally, by a user. Some are inspired by happenings and content in our daily lives, while others are thought of by chance. TROD-type riddles must be thought up in a way opposite to normal thinking - for example, if you saw a man in the supermarket take out a gun and put it to the cashier's head, you would realize what was happening and act accordingly. However, the creation of riddles requires that the man is intrinsically realized to be a criminal before the event that confirms this takes place. This method is also the method that should be applied to solve riddles, as well as other puzzles in our lives.
